From Cultural Fracture to Collective Strength

Making Sense of Upheaval—And Showing Leaders What to Do Next

“I equip people, leaders, and institutions to navigate the defining tensions of our time—cultural backlash, technological disruption, and democratic uncertainty. I help institutions move from fear and fragmentation toward purpose and resilience. No abstract theory—I deliver tools audiences can use to strengthen trust, design inclusive systems, and act with efficacy when the ground is shifting beneath everyone's feet.”

Rich Benjamin’s Bio

RICH BENJAMIN (he/him) is an investigator, a citizen explorer, an observer, a cultural translator. He uses a framework rooted in predictive anthropology to help people and institutions understand cultural shifts so that they can think and perform at their best. He is a sought-after speaker and expert frequently featured on national and international media outlets, including the BBC, NPR, MSNOW, and CNN. His essays appear regularly in public debate, including in The New York Times and The New Yorker. Benjamin is currently a fellow at the New York Institute for the Humanities and the author of two acclaimed books.

Benjamin’s latest book, Talk to Me: Lessons from a Family Forged by History, was a finalist for the prestigious J. Anthony Lukas Book Prize and named a “Best Book of 2025” by Kirkus Reviews. Talk to Me encourages readers to become active agents of history and has been received “not only as a portrait of Benjamin’s family, but as a bold, pugnacious portrait of America.” Benjamin’s first book, Searching for Whitopia: An Improbable Journey to the Heart of White America, chronicles his two-year, 27,000-mile journey to the whitest, fastest-growing communities in America. Searching for Whitopia won an Editors’ Choice award from the American Library Association. This groundbreaking study was one of the first to illuminate in advance the rise of white anxiety, white nationalism, and Trumpism in contemporary US life. Benjamin shared the book’s remarkable findings with eager audiences across the country and distilled key reflections from his research journey into a TED Talk that garnered more than 2.8 million views and was translated into 25 languages.

“This country’s problems are so vast in their depth and magnitude. But we can’t let the problems’ enormity frighten us out of action. We’re living through a defining moment in our country’s history. Received ideas, sanctioned politicians, and mainstream media are nowhere near rising to this moment. The future is on us.” –Rich Benjamin

TEDTalks: Rich Benjamin on the Whitopia Phenomenon

"Rich Benjamin gave a thought-provoking and compelling presentation of his odyessy through “Whitopia.” It drew a large audience of Stanford faculty, students, and community members. Benjamin’s talk was followed by a lively question and answer period, and he also met with undergraduates at a special lunch meeting, which generated an in-depth conversation. Benjamin’s visit to our Research Institute was one of the best-attended and highly regarded talks of the academic year." — Dr. Elizabeth Wahl, Stanford University

“Rich Benjamin’s visit to Santa Clara University was a huge hit. Benjamin gave a terrific talk. He has a knack for raising very sensitive issues in a way that gets beyond tired polarities but that doesn’t muffle the key issues of justice and the common good. Plus, he’s a great storyteller and he’s got a great story to tell.” David DeCosse, Director of Campus Ethics Programming, Santa Clara University (CA)
