KATHRYN HULICK’s Bio
Kathryn Hulick (she/her) is a freelance journalist who covers AI and computing for Science News and Science News Explores. She's also the author of books for young people or anyone who is curious. Her book The UFO Files (Quarto, 2025) combines a sci-fi story with scientific explanations of the marvels found on board an alien spacecraft. Her book Welcome To The Future (Quarto, 2021) is about how technology could change the world, and Strange But True (Quarto, 2019) uses critical thinking to explore the science behind paranormal mysteries.
Hulick began her career with an adventure. She served two years in the Peace Corps in Kyrgyzstan, where she taught English and lived without a cell phone or the internet. Her favorite part of writing about science is getting to speak with researchers in many different fields. She's met roboticists, fusion energy experts, rocket scientists, inventors and more. Once, she spoke with an expert on parallel universes while he was shoveling snow from his driveway. She enjoys hiking with her family and dog, painting, reading, and growing unusual orchids. Her Substack is called Wow! Tech & Nature.
