Suzanne Chazin is a former journalist and the award-winning author of two suspense series. Her first, inspired by her husband, an FDNY chief, limned the macho world of New York City firefighting through the eyes of a female firefighter-turned-arson investigator. Her second stars Puerto Rican homicide detective Jimmy Vega, an upstate New York cop wrestling with the new suburban melting pot and his own complicated place in it. Both series have received glowing reviews for their authentic portrayals and realistic storylines, particularly of the undocumented community.
A State University of New York writing fellow, Suzanne drew inspiration for her Jimmy Vega series from her work with immigrants at an outreach center in suburban New York. In addition to her novels, Suzanne has written articles and essays for The New York Times, People and Reader’s Digest, winning several national awards. Suzanne has also taught fiction and non-fiction writing at Sarah Lawrence College, New York University and the Smithsonian Institution, where she has been a frequent guest lecturer.
